Week 7 - Lesson outcomes
Upon completion of this module you will be able to:
-
Explore different technologies used in the development of digital media learning tools like e-learning
-
Apply digital media design strategies to develop instructional design assets
-

Week 7 ACTIVITY: Storyboard and Interactive Module

Directions:
This module focused on authoring tools for instructional designers. Review the e-learning author tools presented in this module.
You can use one of these free authoring tools or search online for another tool you prefer.
1. Identify a learning objective or instructional need and create an e-learning module of at least 5 scenes/slides (storyboard) to fill that need.

2. You do not need to purchase software for this assignment, there are free trial versions available for you to choose from.

3. Develop your module and post a discussion of your instructional need / objective, your module URL and a 3 - 5 sentence reflection on how your module supports your objective.

This weeks findings:
This week has been a good experience in experimenting with the different on-line software that have been suggested.
I settled for Articulate Rise as it's a very intuitive authoring software that comes with a host of media library assets to use and allows the author to design lessons/presentations with a great variety of interactive actions. The software has great depth in regards to it's interactive features, with too many to cover in this brief first round effort. It's also very well thought out in regards to the design features and layout possibilities, which make it a breeze to design clean looking interfaces. The software can be found here: https://articulate.com/#

I also generated and experimented with a great tool we have access to, through our LMS system, by the name of Ally. This is a tool that integrates into the Canvas LMS and works to support content creators and ensure that the materials they are creating and using are accessible. I used it to produce the voice over for the Vladimir Tatlin podcast contained in this week's interactive presentation.

This made for a great starting point to design a mid-project "Knowledge Check" that will engage students and allow them to review course information and how much they have retained from the previous 3 weeks.
The online multimedia course would need to have three knowledge check points, one for each of the projects, and a similarly produced end of course graded tests could be generated in this same manner.

SmartSparrow
A final adaptive learning technology to be aware of is SmartSparrow (https://www.smartsparrow.com).
According to their homepage, SmartSparrow will allow designers to "Create learning experiences as unique as your students. Address individual student needs, increase engagement and improve student outcomes." I'm intrigued by their ability to create branching scenarios and adaptive learning modules. You can read more here: https://www.smartsparrow.com/what-is-adaptive-learning

SmartSparrow has both a free and paid version, which you do not have to pay for access to the authoring tool for this course. It is another authoring tool option to consider are you create your interactive module for this weeks activity. You can access their online training resources for design and publishing support:
