WEEK 8 - Aim of lesson
Dated: 20.09.19
Adaptive Learning
In this module, you will walk away with a working, pragmatic knowledge of adaptive learning. Beginning with an overview of adaptive today, contextualized by various consumer media technologies, the module will provide concrete examples of different platforms. Commonly used quantitative techniques and scientific theories will be covered in simple, layman’s terms. The module will then examine how the technology has been applied across the entire education lifecycle, including K-12, higher-ed, corporate, and lifelong learning.
Objectives:
-
-
Define adaptive learning and grasp its social and technological context, including its relationship with other trends in media tech such as predictive analytics.
-
Grasp the science and the theories that inform adaptive learning technology.
-
Recognize how adaptive learning benefits different stakeholders in the education lifecycle from K-12 through corporate and lifelong learning.
-
Apply best practices to the design of an adaptive learning module: learn the basics of authoring an adaptive course, from writing precise learning objectives to aligning those objectives with learning resources and assessments. Understand common pitfalls.
-
UMUC would like to thank Christina Yu, Head of Marketing, Learning Science Platforms and Zach Posner, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Learning Science Platforms at McGraw-Hill Education for their contributions to designing this module and access to their adaptive course.
Discussion week 8 - Exercise
By 11:59PM EST USA on Sunday of the week, write a short 200 - 400 word description of adaptive learning, your thoughts on its potential impact on teaching and learning. Finally include a brief description or outline of an adaptive learning module you would create to support your signature assignment topic.
