IDM - WEEKLY NOTES-WEEK 2

Instructional Design and Technology:
Instructional Design Models, University of Maryland, University College - IDT200x
WEEK 2 - Aim of lesson

Submitted: 02.08.19

Reflect on the information covered in this section and begin to formulate your personalized ADDIE Model. Remember, ADDIE is a framework that continuously changes based on the scope of the learning project and identified learning audience.

Q. Your assignment this week will challenge you to develop a personal ADDIE process as a mind map.

A mind map is a graphical way to represent ideas and concepts. It is a visual thinking tool that helps to structure information, helping you to better analyze, comprehend, synthesize, recall and generate new ideas.  To complete this assignment, use Mindmeister to develop each phase of the ADDIE Model and include your definition of the actions that occur at each phase and identify actions step you will use to develop a learning solution based on the ADDIE Model.

Clearly demonstrates these three critical elements:

  1. Each phase of the ADDIE Model is clearly identified

  2. A brief description of the phase

  3. A list of action steps you would implement for each phase of a learning design and development plan

Notes:

ADDIE model

The ADDIE model was created to manage the instructional process for Analyzing, Designing, Developing, Implementing, and Evaluating instruction.  The ADDIE model is a set of comprehensive guidelines, tools, and techniques needed to close the gap between current and desired job performance through instructional intervention.  ADDIE is a flexible, outcome-oriented system based on the requirements defined by education and training. The ADDIE process reduces the number of school management decisions that should be made subjectively and, instead, allows decisions to be made based on reasonable conclusions which are based on carefully collected and analyzed data.

To complete this module, select and review at least three of the follow resources to gain a deeper understanding of the materials presented in this module.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Start with a series of questions to understand the current situation and to also understand what is the goal of the training itself. This influences a huge amount of decisions later in

the process.

One very common question is: What is the point of the training? Why are we doing it? What type of behavioural change is desired? Will training actually help? This phase should be a full audit of the audience, business goals, training methodologies used, media types used, etc. Once this is done, you can generate a training plan that addresses:

Who, What, When, Where, Why, How?

The core of your training plan will be *"How can we improve the situation and achieve business goals through training?"*.

You will use this question as the foundation for the rest of the process.

ADDIE Design Cycle

Analysis
Who, What, When, Where, Why, How?
- You should come out with:  An analysis of training needs and a training plan

Design
- You should come out with:
an overview of the course design and storyboards/prototypes.

Development
- You should come out with: Course Content

Implementation
- You should come out with:
Your courses are live in the LMS and learners can start to take and complete courses

Evaluation
- What to focus on:
1. Did we meet the goals as set out in the analysis phase?
2. Take feedback and place back into the analysis phase.
3. Identify other training requirements.
4. Possible change in media types or approach.

Storyboarding
When you get to the storyboarding stage I recommend using a powerpoint template - it’s a great way to create storyboards quickly and easily and it also can be imported into your authoring tool once the storyboards have been approved.
