Week 1

The course is divided into three specific areas:

1. Use of audio for digital media learning 
2. Use of author ware for e-learning instructional design principles and the last part, 
3. creation of instructional videos through non linear video editing systems.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to:
1. Discuss program summative Capstone Project assignment 
2. Describe the open process and Open Educational Resources
3. Apply the Create Commons license to identify OER for a specific learning need (objective)

This course aims to introduce you to basic digital media technologies in a global context. It introduces you to integrating text, sound, and images using industry standard computer software within a single digital information environment. You will learn basic authoring, characteristics of various multimedia elements and presentation options.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: CLO

1. Describe the principles associated with the integration of various multimedia elements.


2. Outline the major types of commercial authoring software that are used in the design industries for the completion of design projects. 


3. Describe the impact that multimedia technologies have had on a historical, cultural and global lifestyle.


4. Explain the essential attributes of multimedia design.

  • Is the information accurate? 

  • Are there major content errors or omissions?

  • Are there any multimedia process errors?

  • Does the information directly address one or more of the class objectives?

  • Is the information clear and understandable? 

  • Is the layout and interface easy to navigate? 

  • Do the design features enhance learning?

  • For audio or video resources, is the sound quality high?

  • Is the resource available in alternative formats (e.g. .doc)?

  • For audio or video resources, is there a transcript or subtitles?

  • Does the resource encourage active learning and class participation?

  • Are there opportunities for students to test their understanding of the material (e.g. a video with embedded questions)?

  • Does the license allow for educational reuse of the materials? 

  • Does the license allow modifications or adaptations of the materials?

There is no blanket educational licence that allows the downloading of videos from YouTube or Vimeo. If you download it is considered a breach of Terms of Service for each site.

YouTube, Vimeo, and other video sites can be used as teaching tools as long as the material you wish to use is a copy that has been placed online by the copyright holder.

 

Videos from YouTube, Vimeo or other video sites must be embedded or linked to and not uploaded to Canvas.

You must use videos from a legitimate publisher, check if the video was uploaded by a company, institution, organisation or society (for example IEEE, McKinsey and Company, Real Engineering), or if it was published by a person who recorded the original content.

Tip: YouTube shows the name of the publisher under the video title:
